Filip Hartman is a young and rising artist, only 21 years old, based in Aalborg, where he also has his studio. Since finishing high school, Filip has devoted himself entirely to painting, making it his full-time profession – a bold decision that reflects both passion and determination. Before art, football played a major role in his life, where he competed at a high level. This competitive drive now fuels his art, pushing him to continually challenge himself and create works that captivate and inspire.
Filip’s journey into the world of art began with his grandmother, an avid painter and his greatest inspiration. Yet, true to his nature, he didn’t stop at admiration. Instead, his competitive spirit took over. “I thought I could create something that looked better than my grandmother’s,” he says with a smile.
For Filip, art revolves around colors. It’s not the subject matter that defines a painting for him but the harmony and interplay of colors. “The overall unity of the colors is what makes a painting good,” he explains. His fascination with color combinations often draws inspiration from the fashion world, where bold and unexpected pairings spark new ideas for his palette.
People are often at the center of Filip’s work. He explores how body language and mood can evoke emotions in the viewer, all without relying on facial expressions. His figures, however, sometimes take inspiration from the world of furniture design, with forms and structures that feel grounded yet abstract. They are deliberately fragmented, often missing an arm or other features. This is intentional: from a distance, the piece feels more complete, inviting the viewer to fill in the blanks with their own imagination.
Filip’s creative process begins with an idea, a thought, or an individual he has observed. He sketches figures in his notebook before allowing colors to take over. Music often plays a significant role in shaping the mood and emotions of his pieces, acting as a bridge between his internal world and the canvas.
Through his art, Filip aims to tell stories – always with a message about life, sometimes with a touch of humor. He emphasizes the importance of giving youth a voice in the art world and challenges traditional notions of what art can and should be.
Filip Hartman’s work invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the narrative of colors, design, and emotion, discovering their own story within the unspoken.
